Conveniently near CCNY, The Grange is a trendy restaurant with a rustic farmhouse feel that makes for an enjoyable, bright breakfast or brunch. The restaurant is usually fairly packed, and I was pleased with the interior and all of its wooden design. There is a nice bar and plenty of seating, and the waitstaff is friendly and attentive.
The Grange has a hipster feel to it, and I was very pleasantly surprised that there was such a place a block or two away from CCNY campus. All of the food looks very good, and the place has a light and positive feel in the morning or afternoon.
For breakfast one day, I ordered their take on huevos rancheros, but for whatever reason, I wasn’t feeling the dish. I think I’m too accustomed to the huevos rancheros from Community Restaurant near Columbia, or perhaps the flavors from the dish just weren’t coming together for me. The components of the dish were too disconnected for me, and I probably wouldn’t end up ordering the dish again. However, I think that other dishes may be better, so I am hopeful…
I did return to The Grange one day for lunch as well, and I was pleased with a very comforting butternut squash ravioli. The portion size was just fine, and the ravioli itself was well-seasoned, flavorful, and well-presented. It gave me a more positive impression of the restaurant.
Overall, I wouldn’t say that The Grange is the best restaurant around CCNY, but I would say that it is a very respectable and comforting choice for breakfast or brunch. The Grange also offers dinner, but I’m not so sure I would return for dinner since the atmosphere just doesn’t click for me in the evening. Nonetheless, I see myself returning, and I like the overall vibe of the restaurant. It’s nice to see such restaurants opening up around campus for students to have another accessible and pleasant restaurant option.
